Overview

The Department of Nursing at Providence College (also referred to as “the College” or “PC”) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing to join our growing and mission-driven program beginning August 2026. We are seeking an innovative and student-centered educator with expertise in Medical Surgical Nursing who is excited to shape the future of nursing education at PC. The ideal candidate will be able to make meaningful connections between best practices in nursing education, a commitment to the dignity of the whole person, and the Catholic mission and identity of the College. 

The successful faculty member will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering high-impact didactic, and experiential learning experiences that prepare undergraduate nursing students to lead with excellence, compassion, and integrity. They will collaborate closely with an enthusiastic team of faculty and professional staff to advance our cutting-edge teaching and simulation facilities and contribute to a dynamic curriculum that integrates leadership development, evidence-based practice, and holistic patient care. The new faculty member may also teach other courses within the BSN curriculum such as nursing research, nursing leadership, internship and research seminar, or NCLEX Prep depending upon qualifications, interest, and needs of the department. Nursing faculty at PC maintain an active scholarly agenda and contribute to college and professional service in accordance with expectations for tenured and pre-tenured faculty. Duties and Responsibilities

The tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing will report to the Department Chair and provide high-quality undergraduate instruction. Primary responsibilities include developing, delivering, and assessing courses and experiential learning activities that reflect evidence-based practice and support the mission of Providence College. The faculty member will collaborate with clinical and simulation faculty to design and implement cohesive clinical, laboratory, and simulation experiences.

Additional duties include advising undergraduate nursing students, contributing to curriculum development, and participating in departmental and college services such as committee work, program review, and accreditation activities. The faculty member is expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda consistent with tenure expectations and to support students’ professional growth by fostering leadership skills, clinical judgment, and research literacy within a collaborative,
student-centered environment.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in nursing (e.g., Ph.D., DNSc, or DNP). Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Professor; demonstrated experience in teaching at the collegiate level. Advanced professional preparation and clinical expertise in the areas of Medical Surgical Nursing. Unencumbered license as a registered nurse or eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in Rhode Island.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with curriculum development, revision, and program assessment in nursing education. Experience integrating simulation, clinical laboratory, and experiential learning into nursing curricula.
Familiarity with CCNE accreditation standards, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement processes.
